Foundation of the First Baptist Church of Columbia

Annual Report

for Fiscal Year ended September 30, 2014

The Foundation of the First Baptist Church of Columbia was formed in 2003 to foster, further and develop religious benevolence by funding scholarships, mission endeavors, and capital improvements that are consistent with the mission of the First Baptist Church of Columbia.  The Foundation’s purposes are as follows:

  • Scholarship support for students attending Baptist universities or Baptist seminaries or the First Baptist Church Kindergarten.
  • Mission support, including relief of the poor, the distressed or the underprivileged, prevention of cruelty to children, combating community deterioration, combating juvenile delinquency, and the advancement of religion.  The Foundation was formed to serve any Baptist institution, agency, cause or enterprise fostered by the First Baptist church of Columbia or the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Capital improvements to the FBC-Columbia church building for maintenance and additions.

For the 2014 fiscal year, the Foundation’s assets increased from $68,317.40 on September 30, 2013, to $70,222.97 on September 30, 2014, with an annual return on average assets of   7.83%.  The Foundation had $5,505.57 in investment income, received $100.00 in contributions, had no operating expenses and distributed scholarships of  $600 to Ellen Jo Seals (Mississippi College), $600 to Gabe May (William Carey University), $600 to Neil Molaison (William Carey University), $900 to Lindsey Magee (Mississippi College) and $1,000 to the Marion County Food Pantry during the 2014 fiscal year.  The amounts given to students differ according to the funds available, the number of applicants,  and the number of semesters for which funds are requested.  (For example, a student requesting funds for two semesters will receive more than a student requesting funds for one semester.)

The Foundation, which is an avenue for final bequests, transfers or gifts, does not actively solicit contributions.  Those interested in making a contribution or seeking additional information may contact the Church Office or any trustee of the Foundation.  Current trustees are Dr. Bryant Barnes, Trey Carley, Mike Davis, Dr. Hugh Dickens, Kathy Herrin, Gayle Knight, Bruce Ratcliff, Beverly Swann and Baxter White.
