A FOLLOWER’S FRAGMENTS FROM THE “PASTOR’S PEN”

WE ARE BEGINNING OUR “LENTEN SERVICES” next Wednesday (February 22) at noon.  The preaching series will be developed around the “Seven Last Words of Christ from the cross.”  Dr. Bush (That’s Dr. Russell Bush for the uninformed) will be starting our noontime service, and he will preach on Jesus’ statement, “My God, My God, Why hast Thou forsaken Me?”  It is probably the most confusing of the seven statements, and I know you will relish the chance to hear Dr. Bush speak.

The service will conclude no later than 12:30, and we will invite you to a sandwich, soup, salad lunch in the fellowship hall to follow.  The meal is $1, and we hope you will join us at the beginning.

Mark off your Wednesday luncheons for the next 7 weeks and join us for this time of worship, reflection, and sharing.

THE MISSISSIPPI BAPTIST SYMPHONY WILL BE HERE next Sunday night (February 26) to lead us in the evening worship service.  Approximately 90 or more instruments will grace our stage to lift us to know God and to worship Him.  So, come to Discipleship Training and stay for worship.

“MS’ JERRY” SURE WAS SURPRISED LAST SUNDAY (February 12) with the recognition and commendation.  She really enjoyed the events, and she even said, “If I knew that this was going to happen, I wouldn’t have come.”  That is just like her, moving quietly in the background, making sure that everything was in order, and helping us to keep missions on the “front burner.”

Mrs. Margaret Lee led in the planning of the day, and we appreciate her effort.  The “Focus on WMU” Week concludes this Sunday, but the work of the WMU goes on all the time.  Let’s be grateful for those who help us keep our focus around the globe.

IS IT “GLOBAL WARMING” OR JUST A STRANGE WINTER?  I tend to think it is the latter.  The spring-like weather that we have had has indeed been unusual.  Mark Twain remarked, “Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody can do anything about it.”  I find his remark true.  The God who showed up to Job and talked about His presence and power in the universe has everything in His grasp.  So, when things like weather become odd, then trust the God who is worthy to be trusted, because weather may change, but Him. . . .
