Press on Ministries

nana The FBC Senior Adult Ministry, Press On Ministries (P.O. M.), provides a variety of ministries and activities for and by senior adults that make a difference in the lives of people now and for eternity.

Philippians 3:12

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

Senior Adults

Monthly B.A.L.L. Club (Be Active Live Longer) meets the first Tuesday of each month at 11:00 a.m. and features motivational and inspirational programs in a myriad of topics, and fellowship, followed by a covered dish luncheon at noon. Whew! This meal of a lifetime is offered once a month! Do drop in but plan to bring a covered dish if you are able to help out!

Senior Adult Choir: Come join other POMs for a great time of fellowship whether you can sing or not. Every music minister I know says anyone can sing. Sing a joyful noise unto the LORD! We have placed at the festival doing just that!

Games: Senior Adults gather every Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. for Dominoes and fellowship. If you are pressing for a good time, come join them in the Fellowship Hall for fun and games!

Exercise: Grab a partner for an early morning walk , a few laps around the gym at lunch, or aerobic exercises like riding a stationary bike or pumping iron in our Family Life Center. Not a member? Not a problem! Come join and stay healthy!

Refreshed: This is a caregiver’s group which meets on the fourth Thursday of the month. We have a comfortable and quiet location in which we can learn about better ways to give care to others in our families that are failing in health, share with others what we have personally learned through our experiences with our patient, and get a fresh outlook for the weeks ahead to keep our service to others attainable and not overwhelming. There are also informative programs on the fourth Thursdays that keep us abreast of what is being done to help caregivers care.

Senior_adultsHomebound Ministry: This ministry provides for those that are no longer able to get to church. Through regular visits in the home, hospital, and nursing homes, Wednesday night supper deliveries, and regularly delivered Sunday School literature (taught if desired), the Homebound Ministry thrives doing good for others less fortunate than themselves. The Ball Club makes baskets for all those who are homebound at Christmas. There is room for you and plenty of opportunities with great variety. P.O.M. of FBC, Columbia, MS, is not about age, it is about people.

Alongside: This group ministers to widowers. They come for breakfast and devotional which gives them also a good time of fellowship. If you know someone who can benefit with others like them, please recommend this group to them. Usually they meet in the FBC fellowship hall but they may also be found enjoying a fast food restaurant or a great breakfast at the Corner Oaks Bed and Breakfast.

Yaryarn buddiesn Buddies: The Knitters and Crocheters have a really good group that meets in the FBC Parlor. Free knitting or crocheting lessons are yours for the asking. The first project they chose was a scarf ministry in which they honored the older FBC ladies with a handmade scarf . The group appreciated these women for their example in attending church and their influence that this has had in the lives of the rest of the church fellowship. This group meets the second Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Second Mile Bible Study: Come bring your Bible for study in a small group setting. This group meets each Wednesday morning from 8:30 - 9:30 am in the Magnolia Room. Come join us, the coffee is waiting.  We meet the months of August-May.

Hispanic Mission: Pavel Urruchi has an outreach program for Hispanics in the Sandy Hook area and Columbia. Each Tuesday night at FBC Crossroad Building, there is English as a Second Language (ESL) class. Sunday mornings have Sunday school and a worship service at Sandy Hook Baptist Church. Sunday evenings there is a worship service at FBC New Heart Building at 6:30 p.m.

Community Ministries: Jail ministry, Hospital Auxiliary, Food Pantry
