Sunday School Spotlight on Youth I Girls

Youth I: Seventh and Eighth grade girls have two lovely ladies that teach them every Sunday morning. These ladies are none other than Renee Dungan and Valerie Wesley. These two have a very good sense of humor and they really enjoy the time they spend with these girls who sponge up what they have to offer in Sunday School. The director/records keeper is Coach Jay Rayborn, who also teaches the Youth I boys class.

At the moment, the girls are doing a five-week study, Seven Days in Utopia, in which they have combined classes with Rayborn’s boys. There is a video clip with each lesson which they discuss. When this study comes to a halt, they will have another study with this same format. Dungan allows that the class IS NOT quiet, NOT boring, definitely NOT dull, and IS FUN!!!

The morning begins with foose ball and ping-pong, which is the social aspect of the class. Eat your heart out folks!  You don’t have a ping-pong table or foose ball machine in your class, now do you??? Next the lesson comes which EVERYONE enjoys. Doughnut Shop Sunday School is another feature that these kids love. They never know when their teachers will up and take them for doughnuts and a lesson going and coming. SURPRISE!!!

Parties are not particularly a focus for this group due to the fact that most Sundays @ 2:00 p.m. our Youth Minister, Shannon Willis, has so many fun things planned. He plans these varied activities so all the youth will have fun things they like to do. Occasionally these outings turn into EXTREME SUNDAYS when paint ball, or mud holes appear on the docket.

Dungan says that the girls make her smile every week because of the funny little things that they do and say. She says they are delightfully uninhibited. One thing she shares that is unique to their class is Lot’s wife. Although that woman doesn’t attend the class, she is definitely talked about A LOT (sorry for pun!). The kids find her lot in life incredulous (that is two---not sorry!). They’ve heard the story many times but now they’ve let this story Wesley shared with them sink in deeply. They bring it up all the time! Ha!

If you are a seventh or eighth grader, please try this EXTREME class! You will LOVE it!

Sunday School

Sunday School is the foundational strategy in our church for leading people to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and for building on-mission Christians through open Bible study groups that engage people in evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship and worship.

Here at FBC Columbia we have age-graded classes for everyone. We can find a place for you, if you need to find classes just ask one of our greeters as you come into our buildings. Our teachers prepare great lesions each week that are Biblical based. These classes offer times of fellowship other than Sunday mornings. I hope that you will look to join us this Sunday for Bible study at 9:45 am. Below is a list of our departments, leaders and teachers.
