Here at First Baptist Church of Columbia, we look at each child as a unique gift from God. He did make each child different. He did make each child special. He did make each child beautiful. We want to welcome each child to be a part of all the different ministry opportunities we have to offer. Regardless of whether your child is in diapers or learning to live as a preteen in sixth grade, they will find open arms waiting to welcome them here at FBC, Columbia!

For the Parents
Several eight-year-olds in an elementary school were asked to write essays about God. One of them, by Danny Dutton, offers a marvelous illustration of a child's uncomplicated thinking. See what you think!
One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to take the place of the ones who die, so there will always be enough people on earth. He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. Probably because they are smaller and don't cost so much, and easier to make. He doesn't have time to teach them to talk and walk, so He gives them mothers and fathers. That works out pretty good.
Another important job that God has is listening to prayers. He is so busy He doesn't even have time to watch TV or listen to the radio, 'cause He's listening to prayers. Don't waste your time asking for anything your parents already said you can't have; He won't do that. Atheists are people who don't know there is a God. I don't think there are any in my town. None of them go to our church anyway.
Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water, doing miracles that can't happen, and teaching people who don't want to learn. They got tired of Him preaching to them so they crucified Him. He told His Father to forgive them, because they didn't know what they were doing. God said O. K. and told Him, "You don't have to go out on the road anymore." Now He stays in heaven like a secretary, only more important, of course, and helps His Father out by listening to prayers. He and His Father have it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time.
Don't skip Sunday School. That makes God sad. Anyway, the sun doesn't get warm until after lunch. If you don't believe in God, you will be an atheist, and you will be lonely. Your parents can't go everywhere you go, like summer camp, but God can. He's around you when you are scared in the dark, and when big boys throw you into the real deep water, and you can't swim very good.
You shouldn't always think what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.
That's why I believe in God.

These “bucks” are earned through work done in the Pathfinder, by bringing their Bible to Sunday school, bringing a friend, and through other activities. Bible Bucks are spent at the Bible Bucks Store that is opened periodically through the year. Children can buy candy, toys, and other items at the Bible Bucks Store.

GA’S/RA’S/MISSION FRIENDS are the three children’s mission organizations offered each Wednesday evening beginning at 5:15 p.m. GA stands for Girls in Action. RA stands for Royal Ambassadors. GA’s and RA’s are for girls and boys in 1st-5th grades. Mission Friends is for boys and girls ages 3-K5. Through these classes, children learn about missionaries and their work. They also learn about the different countries that are being served by missionaries. Children are also given opportunities to participate in mission projects here at the church, in our community, and through special activities for missionaries around the world.
CHILDREN’S CHOIR is offered each Wednesday night at 6:20 following the mission’s organizations. Children learn music in different age-graded choirs. Children are given opportunities to perform their music in church at different times as well as a year-end children’s choir spectacular where all three choirs perform.
SUMMER WEDNESDAY NIGHTS are special nights at First Baptist Church. Beginning the last Wednesday in May and running through to the last Wednesday in August, children are involved in special Bible study times. These Bible studies are designed to be age-specific and are to be more laid back and fun than other Bible studies offered. The Bible study begins at 5:45 p.m. each Wednesday night through the summer.
