We believe that God created us not just to attend church but to be connected to it through membership. Though the Bible doesn’t explicitly mention the term “membership,” the concept is evident throughout the New Testament. In Acts 2, new believers were “added” to the church community, and Paul likened the church to a body made of many members, each fulfilling a vital role. Church membership clarifies who belongs to the church, creating a foundation for mutual care, accountability, and the rich practice of “one another” commands—like loving, serving, and forgiving one another. Through membership, believers also commit to using their spiritual gifts to strengthen the body of Christ. Joining in membership is a joyful, biblical commitment to live and serve together as one in Christ.
We have a simple four-step process to join our church. The first three steps can be completed in any order, making it easy for you to get connected and learn more about our church family at your own pace and convenience. Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll be ready for church affirmation. Below is a simple guide to help you navigate the process.
Step 1: Communicate Your Desire to Join
Let us know that you’re interested in joining First Baptist Church. You can “walk the aisle” during the response time after one of our worship services, schedule a meeting with one of our ministers, or simply reach out to our office via email or phone.
Step 2: Attend the Come-Aboard Class
Participate in our Come-Aboard class to learn more about our church and what it means to be a member. This class is offered bi-monthly during the Connect Group hour, and we provide breakfast! Check our events calendar here to find the next class.
Step 3: Meet with a Minister
Have an introductory conversation with one of our staff ministers. This relaxed (and hopefully enjoyable!) meeting is a chance for us to get to know you better, hear your story, and answer any questions you may have.
Step 4: Church Affirmation
After completing the first three steps, you’ll be presented for affirmation at a church members’ meeting, held quarterly during one of our Wednesday night services.
