We believe that God created us not just to attend church but to be connected to it through membership. Though the Bible doesn’t explicitly mention the term “membership,” the concept is evident throughout the New Testament. In Acts 2, new believers were “added” to the church community, and Paul likened the church to a body made of many members, each fulfilling a vital role. Church membership clarifies who belongs to the church, creating a foundation for mutual care, accountability, and the rich practice of “one another” commands—like loving, serving, and forgiving one another. Through membership, believers also commit to using their spiritual gifts to strengthen the body of Christ. Joining in membership is a joyful, biblical commitment to live and serve together as one in Christ.
We have a simple four-step process to join our church. The first three steps can be completed in any order, making it easy for you to get connected and learn more about our church family at your own pace and convenience. Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll be ready for church affirmation. Below is a simple guide to help you navigate the process.
Step 1: Communicate Your Desire to Join
Let one of our pastors or staff members know that you’re interested in joining First Baptist Church. While you’re not required to “walk the aisle” and share this publicly, doing so is a great way for our church family to meet and welcome you.
Step 2: Attend the Come-Aboard Class
Participate in our Come-Aboard class to learn more about our church and what it means to be a member. This class is offered bi-monthly during the Connect Group hour, and we provide breakfast! Check our events calendar here to find the next class.
We strongly encourage attending in person, but if that’s not possible, you can watch the class online here and complete the accompanying booklet to fulfill this step.
Step 3: Meet with a Minister
Have an introductory conversation with one of our staff ministers. This relaxed (and hopefully enjoyable!) meeting gives us the opportunity to get to know you, hear your story, answer any questions you may have, and discuss important steps like baptism or transferring your membership from another church, if needed.
Step 4: Church Affirmation
After completing the first three steps, you’ll be presented for affirmation at a church members’ meeting, held quarterly during one of our Wednesday night services.
